Captain America: First Avenger (2011): Opens First to $65.8 million!

Guess it's no surprise is it? Lots of nerdy, under achieving, patriotic yankies out there :ermm:.

Re: Captain America: First Avenger (2011): Opens First to $65.8 million!
Spiderman 3 did $150,000,00 and it was shite.Hulk did $62,000,000 and it was utter shite.Even Green Lantern a character that nobody cares about in a movie that nobody wanted to see did $55,000,000.
I think if they dressed up a Pomeranian in a tutu and called it a superhero it would have a $50 million dollar opening. A $50 million dollar opening and a 70% reduction in ticket sales for the second week just like all the other 3rd rate inanities they foist on an obviously undiscerning target audience.
The good news is that wait a couple of months and hotshot will be able to steal it in glorious HD.

Re: Captain America: First Avenger (2011): Opens First to $65.8 million!
I actually watched the movie last night. It started off fairly strongly creating a genuinely likable character in the personae of puny Steve Rodgers but unsurprisingly loses most of the built up empathy the minute he is transformed into Captain America.
From that point on very little to the good happens, most surprisingly very little actual action and the movie genuinely start to stink someplace around a third of the way in. There is a bit of a bittersweet romantic "what might have been" near the end that I liked but basically it served to illustrate how horribly lacking in true emotion the rest of the mess was.
Other that I liked the lead actress' boobs and Tony Stark's father ,hated the silly sci-fi weapons , Captain's commando's and the insistence of Marvel to put Nick Fury in every movie so as to promote the upcoming Avengers which I pray is a whole lot better than this waste of time was .
All in all I would has been better served if I had stopped watching after the first twenty minutes and Googled Haley Atwell's breasts.

Hi. Thanks for letting me know. From your replies I think I will go and watch this movie. I was looking forward to Green Lantern. But from the reviews I decided not to go to the theaters for it.

Re: Captain America: First Avenger (2011): Opens First to $65.8 million!
I ended up seeing both Green Lantern and Captain America when they came out, mostly because there wasn't really anything else playing at the time. Summers been pretty lame in terms of the box office.

^^^ Reason why I'm learning more towards TV shows for entertainment. You don't expect much and if it's a shit episode you only wasted 30 minutes.

Re: Captain America: First Avenger (2011): Opens First to $65.8 million!
Captain America is cool but Spiderman is way cooler. The only reason i like Captain America is due to his involvement in WW2. I like all the movies and games that are related to these times :D

Oh yeah I love TV so much more than cinema as well. I find 20-40 minutes are much more enjoyable to take in than 120. GF doesn't consider that part of 'going out' though :ermm: I usually watch some comedy while eating dinner

I'll leave the softball "she said" comment for those who enjoy lower hanging fruit, but would recommend you upgrade your attention span.
I've seen longer capacity spans quite reasonably priced at Costco (and install is less painful than you might think...).

Re: Captain America: First Avenger (2011): Opens First to $65.8 million!
I don't even know if attention span is fully my problem, cause once I start a movie I'll get sucked in and normally enjoy it thoroughly. But the idea of sitting through 2 hours of watching media is almost painful, so I rarely watch movies alone or suggest watching them with someone.
edit: I realize this thinking makes absolutely no sense but whatever, I don't really care that I'm missing out on endless media that I would probably enjoy if I cared enough to care.

Most experts agree that sentences should have a logical connection.
In your first you claim immersion in the movie experience, in the second you say the opposite.
You are either painfully multifaceted, under the influence of drugs or dumbstruck by the realization that ultimately we are all alone and a few hours of artificial community with a temporary group of peers is better than the wretched loneliness of a meaningless life.
Or you're twelve.

Re: Captain America: First Avenger (2011): Opens First to $65.8 million!
That's surprisingly insightful, but maybe I just enjoy movies and I enjoy what I actually do in my spare time more. With or without 2 hours of visual escapism, life can be a drag.
