I'm on 128 (slow as shit) and its a PC133 SDRAM. And I have a 256 PC133 SDRAM chip that I'm trying to put in. But when I put it in, and I start up, it just comes to a blank screen :angry:. (And yes I'm putting every thing in the right place, I read the manual) And theres two sockets to put it in, and I've tried both.
PLEASE HELP ME!!!
try booting with just the 256MB stick in

Ok, I saw this on the box, it says it only runs on 1GHz processors or faster and under My Computer Properties, it says I only have 996 MHz...is that the problem?

For all intents and purposes 996MHz IS 1 GHz.
POST= Power On Self Test.
When you turn on your machine do you hear the BEEP?
That is a successful POST.
So.
Will your machine POST?

well put ;) , i would also just try booting without the memory in, it should then remember that it didnt have any and "look" for new ram on next boot, (longshot :D ) you should get a series of beeps or a repeating long beep, then power off and unplug the power cable and then put the memory in and reboot. You could also clear the cmos, if you cant see where or how, unplug it and then remove the battery for a minute or so and then put it back in and reboot, you will have to set the date in bios and if you unsure of settings just select default. other than that as said before its most likely a dodgy chip ;)Quote:

was the ram secure? if its loose then it will be a blank screen. happen to me once.
Is it seated right i mean do the clips pop up? Its quit a bit of force to seat them right

EDIT just notice u posted that a min right after i post. maybe i posted mine while you were typing that
is ur ram secondhand or brand new? also, did u kill it with static by accident? u might also want o just stick it in to another comp. i had the same prob when i tried to change me ram, cuz my current ram is oced, and after i switched to new ram, i forgot to change the clock settings. and it won't boot. then i went back to old settings, and it was fine. btw, the new ram turned out they didn't work. so i returned back to the manufac.

No...it'll boot from the old RAM just fine, but the new RAM is what's giving me problems. And it won't boot from both at the same time either.Quote:

THE POST TEST
Each time the computer boots up the computer must past the POST. The following is the procedure of the POST:
1. The first step of POST is the testing of the Power Supply to ensure that it is turned on and that it releases its reset signal.
2. CPU must exit the reset status mode and thereafter be able to execute instructions.
3. BIOS must be have readable.
4. BIOS checksum must be valid, meaning that it must be readable.
5. CMOS be accessible for reading.
6. CMOS checksum must be valid, meaning that it must be readable.
7. CPU must be able to read all forms of memory such as the memory controller, memory bus, and memory module.
8. The first 64KB of memory must be operational and have the capability to be read and written to and from, and capable of containing the POST code.
9. I/O bus / controller must be accessible.
10. I/O bus must be able to write / read from the video subsystem and be able to read all video RAM..
If the computer does not pass any of the above tests your computer will receive an irregular POST. An irregular POST is a beep code which is different from the standard which can be either no beeps at all or a combination of different beeps indicating what is causing the computer not to past the POST.

You DO get what you pay for, especially with RAM.
Factor in your travel time, gas, and all the effort you put into trying to make it work, and that "cheap, off-brand" crap probably wasn't a much better deal than the good stuff, was it?
Ok, new question, can my new 256 RAM work with my old 128 RAM at the same time which equals 384 MB of RAM? (Their both the same exact kind)
