okay im shopping for a new cpu, and i was wondering if i should get a 2500 barton or a 2400 t-bred....the t-bred is clock at 2.0ghz while the barton is clocked at 1.8....and the price is 10 dollars more....i dont plan on doing any overclock so im kinda leaning toward the t-bred becuz it has faster stock speed....but could the increase in caches size and fsb make the barton any faster than the 2400?

The barton has a bigger cache and has a better chance of "surviving" overclocking ;)
yea, its good for ocing, but i dotn plan on doing any.

yea, thats what im wondering...does the caches size and the fbs affect speed thta much? cuz if not , then im just gonna get my self a 2400 t-bred instead of the 2500 barton
depends on ur mobo.....can it support it? whats the price difference?
If you get the 2500+ you'll be able to use 333MHz RAM efficiently, which will be a boost. It'll also mean better upgradeability.

@lamsey ty for the tip, i was planning on using pc2700 rams. so i guess ill go w/ barton....their goes the $10 for my extra uv cold cathode :(

The cathode looks pretty, but is it really useful to you? You'll be better going for an efficient CPU/RAM combo :)

Blimey, I got a Soltek mobo on which I can set the CPU & RAM independently. Aren't they all separately controlled now, then?
My Asus board allows that also.
Most modern mobos allow it, but it's not an efficient way to run a PC.Quote:

As far as I know, it's more efficient to have your CPU FSB and your RAM running at the same speed. That way one never has to wait some cycles for the other to catch up.
yea..... my mobo has 333fsb.....although im running 266 kingston ram and 266 cpu (for economical issues :D )
when i buy my new cpu (since the mobo supports till 3000+), ill prolly have to get other ram :D (333 one, since the cpu i would buy would be 333)

I agree, although I have seen threads in which radical OCers are getting pretty amazing results running asynch, but they are running settings that would make my parts beg for mercy (if not just go belly up :P ).
