i go into bios, and i set my vcore to auto. does that mean it's at default or auto selected? i'm not too familar with asus mobos. i check in the asus prob and sisoftsandra, and they tell me that my vcore is 1.6??? that's not default!@!@! then i go into bios and set it down to 1.55. i open windows, and open probe and sisoft, and they're saying 1.63!!!!!@!@!#@#!##W!Q#!# wtf!!!?!? is this supposed to happen????

"cpu vcore setting{auto}"
"This field determines if the Cpu Vcore is automatically scaled or set manually by the user.The default value is {auto},therefore,the cpu vcore voltage is set for maximum performance without stressing the cpu,configuration options:[Auto}{menu}" :)

Abu, it seems likely that your chip needs more voltage to run properly at your upped clock speed.

my asus board over volts the vcore as well...i think its just sumthin they do...mine stays above what i set it to even if i underclock the cpu
well, a lot of ppl with my speed have stock vcore. wat's the highest u can go (vcore) b4 u damage or shorten the life span of the cpu?
bare in mind if you increase your voltage will increase your cpu temp

I had to raise the Vcore some on my 2500 once it got to 3200. Thanks Lennon for helping me out on that one!

any overclocking does reduce the life span of a CPU and any increase in voltage will further reduce it ;)

I dont no mate,i think about it in the first place they're strong enough to last for donkeys yrs at 24/7 by design and the other parts, and they would probably absorb some of the strain or affect if u o'c-it a bit.Mo mate dont worry about life spans mate and if u plan on upgradin' to go with say gaming.Just concentrate you dont mess up what you're are doing now. :nono: gamin' or what you do otherwise mate . :)

no just get hot, i have a Abit running at 2.5 volts for my ocing... mainly you should think like this... higher the volts= hotter you could pobably get pretty far as long as cooling can handle it... but yes too much would cause it to melt...Quote:

abu are you having any problems at all? if the temps are so low and your computer is running stable then why are you worried about the vcore?

the straight and simple answer is no it won't, as long as it doesn't at first burst in flames... that is the direct and easy answer...
If your temps are ok, the vcore is ok... damage will only result when the higher vcore gets too hot and melts your cpu... so just watch dem temps...

The only way to really know would be to test several hundred chips to destruction.
I'm pretty sure that no one here has done that...well, maybe SciMan... :P
another weird thing. i just ran 3dmark03 @ same settings at b4, and i got 400 points less than wat i had b4. wtf?
what do you mean by same settings as before? Like with all of your old hardware? Or with your new hardware just not overclocked? Cuz you overclocked 800Mhz...there should be a significant diff in 3DMark03...

You didnt answer my questions...do you mean before all you new hardware your scores were better or after your new hardware but before it was overclocked?
the Vcore setting are dangerous above 1.7 volts on a p4, so your fine :)
