These things build up, you dont just get the diseases all of a sudden.
The amount of time that it takes to build up varies between people though.
Still, how bout some averages?
Ok, here you go:Quote:

DONT SMOKE
ok i smoke weed and cigs so here some advice don't start nasty habit
and there are no differences wid either they both will do the same damage.
Interesting question. You want to know how long you can harm your body until it starts to show signs of problems? I guess you don't value you body and health.
i read that 10 seconds after you have inhaled the smoke of marijuana, your chances of a heart attack have doubled, er something like that.
kinda true cuz weed have more tar in them than cigs doQuote:

Lol, I guess there aren't much informed people over here on the issue....
I'ma keep googling, but keep the "good" ;) answers coming
what do you mean?...you were told there is no set time :nono: just accept that it's not good for you ;)Quote:

you are an idiot...
you want the best of both worlds and you will never get it no matter how hard you try.
Well the addiction can set in on the first puff, then you have that monkey to contend with.
Freud suffered through 11 surgeries on his mouth thanks to his smoking, and he admitted that he could never stop.
As for early effects, your exercise tolerance will take a nose drive.
The best advice, whether you like it or not, is to never listen to the Siren song of nicotine, which is considered on of the worlds most addictive drugs.
Why would you even think of starting, it doesn't get you drunk or anything. Probably just another case of a weak personality trying to fit in to please his peers.
Oh lolz this thread gets funnier yet.
First, I do not ask for the matters that you think I'm asking. This is just for personal reference. I like enriching myself with (dumb?) details such as the ones I asked.
Sorry, we don't like "bullshit" sandwiches here.Quote:

I never said I did or didn't smoke. However, a friend at work asked me and I didn't really know, but told him I would find out (he's been having his cigs for about 3-4 years now). :smilie4:
did you even read my first post in this thread?Quote:

if your just wondering the answer, go find something better to do
if you are planning to smoke or are smoking, i guess i can give
you some info of what i've read:
After you take you take your first puff, you will live for another 1068 years, so there's really nothing to worry about
If its your friend, go let him research his prolonged suicide on his own.Quote:

Yeps, of course I read it ;)
I asked however, some averages. Perhaps some names of a sickness, illness or disease would help me. Oh btw, I already know about cancer, so strike that out ;)
Listen DWK, tell him to visit a Veteran Administration hospital (or whatever is the equivalent in the UK- a hospital for retired soldiers)and talk to those guys about "quality" of life.
Cancer does effect some, but it really is not what causes the greatest suffering.
The real key here is that you can go on for 20-30 years being functional because the body is so forgiving, but when the symptoms appear, the damage is irreversible and the downward spiral is rapidly progressive.
As an analogy, you can walk on flat ground for a while until you reach the cliff, you don't even know it is coming. When you get there, the dropoff is very steep, and you go from "fine" to "debilitated", (can't walk to the toilet without getting short of breath(emphysema), can't go to the mailbox without your legs aching(vascular disease) and that pain in your chest may just be a signal of a massive heart attack (vascular disease, again) very quickly.
As I said before, in the young, even with all that pulmonary reserve, your exercise tolerance goes to hell.
Best of luck to your friend.
There is a word i'm looking for... Hmmm.

and i hope he/she knows that theres rat poison in cigs... <_<

its DENIAL, not denile
If you accept that there are noxious substances in cigarette smoke, then you start harming yourself the first time you smoke. It really is that simple.
As hobbes points out, your body can correct for a lot of the bad things you do to it, particularly when young. However the cumulative effect of your abuse will eventually get to you. Then when the particularly nasty things start there is no going back. Even people who do not develop emphysema or the like will shorten their lifespan and the quality of what life they have.
No matter what anyone tells you, anyone can give up smoking. I smoked for 20 years and gave up. I have not had a cigarette for about 6 years now, I have no intention of doing so.
i had a really bad xmas last year due to my mum smoking. She was put in hospital with a bad case of pnumonia. She got out 1 month after christmas. bad times...
until you die from lung cancer ;)Quote:
