This seems to be the first post made in WN&E, JK. Made by none other than FC.
Although, it seems to have been moved from the lounge so its technically not the first thread.
So it could be this one...http://filesharingtalk.com/index.php?showtopic=19080
Thanks, Chalice.
Ironic, isn't it, that I have no idea when it was instituted?
I should be ashamed, I think. :D
Well..it started as the Iraq War forum. As for an actual date? Hell if I know. ;)
:ninja:
That can't be right.
I joined on March 16th of last year and believe that I am a charter member of the old World News gang.
I think this section was officially named and opened sometime in June.
Edit:
Hmmm...just noticed that I have an anniversary coming up soon.
In lieu of gifts, please donate to the FC Computer Fund.
Right, but there was a point where we (might even have been me, I don't know) started a thread to chat about making it permanent, come up with a name, etc.Quote:

I though you were in on that, MN.
Seems like there should be more replies to this by now; Hobbes and Clocker, Rat Faced, maybe Jetje and a few others might remember something.
I think you'll be here for that, won't you?Quote:

We will, of course, have a toast or two in your honor. :D
As to the topic, I think you're right, Clocker-had to be June, I think, 'cuz the war was pretty much decided, and we had begun to branch out a bit, subject-wise.
I can't believe we don't have the means to nail this down.
Yes j2, twas you who originally suggested permanently opening a world news section.
That was back when people still paid attention to you. :P
The best indication yet as to how much time has passed. :DQuote:

I remember being on the thread to keep it. I also remember it should've been called The Drawing Room. Ah well. ;)
Your "Congratulations To Us, The Opinionated" thread first appeared May 19th, 2003.
And clocker was still posting in pictures alone.
Hobbes posted about keeping the section April 19th, 2003, rather than "throwing us back into the kiddie pool [to talk about] boobies."
So maybe its birthday is coming up soon.
:ninja:
I thank you kindly, MN. :)Quote:

Now: To the search! ;)
You know...upon reflection....there really isn't enough talk "about boobies" in here.
Hobbes?

Don't you find it funny how boobies have such bright feet? Their bodies are so dull.
:ninja:
Clocker posted a thread about a poll on the name change here on 22 May 2003 so it couldn't have changed it's name before that. Shame he didn't post a link to the poll, the last post in that thread would have been useful, but it seems to be gone.
So is this the first post? Clocker also refers to a missing poll here. It may have been under the old name, but it was certainly not war related so is it the name that matters or the sentiment?
There was, as I remember, quite a bit of preliminary yakking before we even got the mods' attention; I did some searching last night, to no avail.
What I was after (so as to properly celebrate/mark an anniversary) was the first new thread which appeared under the WN & E heading; hence the difficulty-a number of threads were, quite rightly, re-assigned to WN & E as "seed" topics-but, what was the first new thread?
Or: Can we find the precise moment that the section was established, seed threads or no?
That would probably be better, I think.
Can we search by date?
Unfortunately there appear to be some big holes in the database at about the time you are referring to, so it may be impossible to find the first post. For example the thread you started "Congratulations to us, the opinionated" had it's last post on 9 June 2003. But the actual last viewable post was made on 30 May 2003.
Topics from 10 June 2003 onwards would seem to suggest that the theme (and presumably the title) of this section had changed by then, but there are definitely some big holes about that time so I'm not too optimistic that your wish will be fulfilled by any type of search.
:(
I'll muck around a bit; see what I can find.
Thanks, lynx.
We closed the Poll and requested the change on 3rd July 2003.
It may have been a couple of days later before the actual creation, but thats the date it became official ;)
Perhaps like Her Britannic Majesty it can have two birthdays RF.Quote:

Real and Official.
Sounds about right to me.Quote:

I'm happy with that if everyone else is.
Of course, maybe no one else cares, either. :D
Thanks, Rat.
We should solicit a list of "charter" members or something; maybe add an extra bauble to our profiles to tear the rest asunder with jealousy, eh?
damn it! i gots no idea whether i'm a charter member. can't for the life of me recall the first time i locked horns with someone in the World News forum, in a futile attempt to make 'em believe the same thing as me.
edit: oh, *phew* the filesharingtalk.com search engine sez i have posts in World News going as far back as june 2003. oh, waitasec... if the forum was created in july 2003... that's not right...
oh yeah... the threads from the "war" forum were moved into World News, right?
Those may be some of the threads that were grandfathered in, 3RA1N1AC.Quote:

Best guess, anyway; I don't know if I'd push it-you know how Rat Faced gets when he's questioned. :D
Well, since I was referenced as the first to recommend the room, a month before J2's thread, and MagicNakor still longs for the name I recommended, http://filesharingtalk.com/index.php?showt...ndpost&p=247009Quote:

I should be crowned King and you all should be my subjects!
I actually still prefer, "The Conservatory", just because it sounds cool.
Just so-
I noted it then, and I remember it now.
I bow before you, my King!
Noblesse oblige would dictate you fete your subjects with a lavish feast of the finest morsels known to man, I think.
Shall I reserve a room for the occasion, sire? :D
Traditionally an elevator methinks.Quote:

Yup.
Just waiting for the OK from the ole' King, there.
Sometimes he falls asleep in the middle of a conversation...
It seems we have an error in the data base, gentleman.
Here is the thread with the original party list. I am the author, but the actual first post is by J2 and the "party list" and my introductory post, as well as a few others, are missing.
Conspiracy?
So it would seem.Quote:

Your beginning narrative was so masterful; it simply cannot have gone missing. :(
Alas, my King, you may have to re-create and reset the scene....conjure, if you will. :)

As King, I refrain from actually doing anything except attending ribbon cutting ceremonies and such.
I will, therefore, use my vested power to dub you "Chief of the Exexcitve Branch" and you may actually provide the new list or recruit some to do it for you.
Any volunteers for Court Jester?
Me Me Me Me Me, oh please your Majestic Bunnines, can it be Me.Quote:

Monkeyshines seem appropriate for you given the avatar and recent escapades, but I wonder if you could serve a dual role as royal barstweard, as well.
I must regrettfully decline that title, as I cannot properly discern the duties of the, um....Exexcitive Branch.Quote:

Does it have anything to do with unlawful carnal activities occurring in the immediate vicinity of "Death Row"?

Damn forum gnomes, it was supposed to be "executive"!
Again, I assume that my post was modified by the Illuminati, just as my original "party list" was erased by them.
Okey-dokey. ;)
Well, we've got some time to re-assemble the roster of players; are we settled on the July 3rd anniversary?
Yes it started around when bush was gearing up to go to war with iraq... don't remember the exact date though.
We were yakking about the war for a while before the W.N.& E. section was branded officially, remember?Quote:

The mods made the "Iraq War" section a temporary deal until we made noise about making a permanent section.
Too bad your memory for dates sucks, kAb-I remember you were there with us-and you don't have the excuse of being antiquated and senile like us. :D

Why are there two j2k4s and why does one of them have the same writing in his signature as clocker. One even says it has been edited by clocker. I cannot put my finger on it yet but there seems to be some kind of conspiricy in our midst, could this be something to do with the prementioned Illuminati.
Has anyone seen my leviathan?

I would never edit one of j2's posts.
I can't understand most of 'em....
