and the heatsink was realy hot when i opened the pc up to take a look. :(
How oftern does it do this?
- Take off the side panel
- Turn Pc on
- Run speed fan on top so you can see at all times
- When speedfan tells you it has stopped
- have a look at the fan
Did u put the fan on urself? when did it start happening?

Im no experts but just a short period will perminantly fuck your CPu, especially if its a high speed one. Buy another fan and don't use the pc if its happens alot, it will end up ruining your cpu.
no didnt put the fan on my self its a hp pc.Quote:

im not even sure if that heatsync is good, it was just an example...but it may be good...
i still think that something is wrong with the heatsync u have now, that the temps are so high...
btw, no u cant use that fan on ur current heatsync, cause its 80mm...

oh.
well could some one find me one please :)
Why not get an 80 mm fan and an adapter. Should be quieter too.
been there done that :lol:Quote:

i got one of them and a 80mm fan but the temps were 60-65 so i put the 60mm back on. then put the 80mm under the power to cool that down. (its helped a lot its cooler now) :)
any one got any more idea?
I'm a bit surprised.
I've used the 80mm fan and adaptor on three of the machines that I've built and it's always worked like a charm.
One extra step that I've taken that you may not have, is to instal SpeedFan and throttle down the speed of the fan.
I think that, if run at full speed, the 80mm gets strangled by backpressure/turbulance and doesn't perform up to it's potential.
been there done that :lol:Quote:

hey do you run fan speed allthe time?
just a thought but on the front page of fan speed there is an option to have auto fan speed
when the auto fan speed is ticked it controls you fan depending on the temps you set in the config
if the auto is ticked , try unticking it and see if the fan does the same thing
oh yer and make sure the speeds are all set at 100% as well
No.Quote:

I have found the best results are achieved when you set the minimum at 60% and the maximum at 80-85%.
Depends on the adaptor you use...I've tried two- one is much shorter than the other and seemed to work the best.
agreed, but we are trying to figure out why his fan goes from flat out to zero here
and with my old fan, fan speed did the exact same thing when the auto was on
Oh.
My mistake.
Sorry.
i dont have auto on and there all on 100%Quote:

i just turned the cpu fan down to 70%
temp gone up by 2C
EDIT: i left the pc on all nite downloading and the fan didnt stop :)
im goin to replace the heatsink+fan.
has any one got a good heatsink+fan for me to get from ebuyer? (all so need some paste)
link
i have just orded one hope it does the job
will i have to buy my own paste or will it come with some
you have to buy some ;)Quote:

whats the best way to take the old paste off?
if i dont get it all of does that matter?
just clean it of the chip with a lint free tissue or cloth , you should be able to get it clean b4 applying the new paste
ps you dont need a very thick layer of paste ether, a nice thin layer is best as long as the whole chip to heat sink area is covered
iv been looking at pics and reading about how to install them it seams easy to installing one.
could there be a problem with the size or any thing like that with the new heatsink?
You should be alright for size as long as it is the correct socket, and you don't have a huge northbridge cooler or anything...Quote:

You should be fine
Be sure to get some hearing protection with that cooler, i bought the same one a while ago and returned it after i heard how loud it was and got the zalman cooler in return.
cant be that bad :rolleyes:Quote:

Yes the Volcano 12 is likely to be very loud, when it is running at max speed.I have a Volcano 9 right now and it is quite loud. You should cancel that order and try to find onje of these at a shop or website that you can order from.I have heard a lot of good reviews from people I know and local computer guys about these. Most of the guys are running XP2500+ cpu's overclocked to 3200+ speeds and all report good temps and low noise.I myself am going to pick one up in the next couple of weeks.
Oh and another thing,if you buy a thermaltake fan and heatsink it will come with some thermal paste(although it is not very good stuff,I would recommend arctic silver or OCZ Ultra5+ paste)

not sure.
what u guys think?
Well i read that it was loud before i bought it and thought that it couldnt be that bad as everyone said it was... but i was wrong it was really loud at max speed , and at low speed it was still kinda loud but i didnt like my temps at low speed. (50c° idle)
But if you dont mind a loud cooler you should go for it.
Personally Gungrave, I think that good ( if not spectacular) temps can be achieved without the excessive noise.
To me, the necessity of a loud, high performance fan signals a deficiency in the design of the sink itself or a flaw in your cooling configuration.
Or both.
Sorry, but I'm not familiar with your rig...what chip/board are you running?
amd 2800+ 2.08ghz
no idea what my mother board is.
