Why do people prefer AMD over INTEL...
Intel seems fast w/ FSB and 1mb cache...
Also ghz wise...
well I know there still stuck with 32bit but whats the diff please pro - cons.

It all comes down to money.
AMD chips are less expensive and deliver nearly the same performance.
I suppose that it really depends on what you do with your PC.
Frankly, I doubt that most people utilize the full power of their computers anyway, so if you can save a few bucks on the chip ( money well directed to other areas of the machine), then why not?
As everyone has said, it's the money. If i was rich, sure i'd go with intel, but im not. AMD is like half the price to give you a processor with same performance all around.
AMD does more processes in every clock cycle. They do like, lets say 10, at 2.2Ghz
Intel does 6 at 3.2Ghz...The clock cycle goes a little bit faster, but doesnt send as much data each time..
They are both good. If I was to build a new comp...yeah right..i love mine haha I would go for at least a 3200 64...for the 1mb of l2cache
BTW, my friend has a 9800Pro..256bit version of course lol and an athlon 64 3000...his mom made a proffesional build it...and charged like 400 bux...w/e lol but hes only getting like 41000 in aquamark...no aa or af or nething is on...its wierd.
Ghz doesnt mean anything anymore.....an Amd 2.2 Ghz will thrash most Intel 3.0Ghz+.

Clocker, I live in texas keep in mind..the coolest thing is big jacked up trucks..or excalades on 24s...theres alot of rich rich people who live in my city with a wholeeee lot of nice cars always driving around...prob a lot of debt to tho lol...most 16 year old guys get trucks, not cars.

Didn't I see a link in this forum to a power:$ review that showed the Intels being wiped out by cheaper AMDs?
Never mind, my advice would be to get the fastet AMD you can afford because it'll spank the arse off the fastest Intel you can afford. :)
Also, unless you're going to get one of the top dog CPUs there's not much point in spending too much to cool a cheaper but overclocked chip, when that money could be put toward a faster chip in the first place AFAIC.

AMDs do tend to run warmer than Intels- OC'ed or not.
With a semi-effective case cooling setup the stock AMD HSF can work just fine.
The next step up wold be the stock HS modded with an 80mm fan...a solution that many overlook, but I found to be very effective, especially given the monetary outlay involved.
After that you can go as crazy as you wish.
One small caveat...
NO heatsink, from the merely good to the truly exceptional, can help a poorly ventilated case.
Taking care of aiflow in the case should be your first priority no matter how you intend to proceed.

just a clairfication, my current pc (sig) gets higher scores in all benchies (3dmark 03/01, aquamark, and sisoft benchies) with a athlon 64 3200 with same graphx card and ram. although my friend's pc (the one i compared to) has pc 4000 ram instead of pc3200 (me). he didn't oc though. does that prove my point or not? mines bascially a p4 3.2 and he's an athlon "64" :rolleyes: and i beat him.

edit: Then there is teh price thing again as well, the athlon 64bit 3200+ is 369 canadian dollars, the 3ghz pentium 4 is the same price, im sure the 64bit processor could be equivelent or better than the intel one.

Exactly, he came close to you running 32 bit software with NO clocking. Every part of your system is tweaked.

You won't get much OCing out of a XP3000+. It is already near the limit of what can be achieved with 130nm technology.
That's why people go for the cheaper 2500 or 2600 Bartons and OC them to 2.2GHz or better. It is easily possible to get XP3200 performance from the cheaper chips, and you won't do much better with an XP3000.
The motherboard is OK for your purposes, get the cheaper chip and spend the difference on higher quality ram.
Edit: get the retail version of the Barton, the stock cooler should be ok for OCing as long as your case ventilation is good.

I've got a 2500 running at 2.28GHz, well in excess of XP3200 performance, but it does tend to get a little hot because I've had to increase Vcore to 1.75V (or was it 1.775, I can't remember). Some chips run hotter than others, it's the luck of the draw.
The 333MHz FSB chips (base frequency 167MHz) seem to go a little funny/unstable at a base freq of about 183 MHz, but start behaving again as you near 200MHz. Thats ok for the 2500 and 2600 chips because their multipliers give a final frequency (at 200MHz base) of 2.2GHz and 2.3GHz respectively. I assume it is because timings are switching from 333MHz FSB to 400MHz FSB at about that point
However, the 2800 chip has a 12.5x multiplier, so the base freq of 200MHz would give you a resultant 2.5GHz, probably way too high. To bring that back down to 2.3GHz you would need a base freq of 184MHz, right in the middle of the unstable area. For that reason, the 2800 is not a good chip for overclocking.
BTW, the rogue temp of 127C you saw in Speedfan is simply an unconnected sensor. You can configure Speedfan to ignore that temp.
