ok im going to either buy a regular 2500 or a moble 2500 tonight from newegg.
if i get the regular one it comes with a heat sink and saves me some cash, if
i get the 2500 Moble i gotta buy a heatsink and i have no clue what to look for
in a heatsink :blink: and prices for them, can someone suggest some good brands
prices ect.

If you dont plan on overclocking, or just going to 3200XP speeds, I would just get the Retail 2500 non mobile.
This is recomended by AMD for up to 3200+

Can't find the link at the moment, but I saw a comparison of quite a few HSFs and this one was only beaten by a water-cooled setup. It left all the others trailing in it's wake.
I can't give it a personal recommendation at the moment, but I'm going to replace my water cool system with one of these as soon as I get paid for my last contract.

Oh and I also heard of the SP97 being out of production. As far as I know it has gotten replaced by the XP-90.
Problem is, the XP-90 doesn't fit Socket-A. And there are now quite a few Socket A heatsinks which are rated at 3400 or even 3600, and certainly outperform the SP-97.
I did notice there's a SI-97 which I haven't come across before, and it has the same rating as the SP-97. Is this a new one (possibly a replacement) or have I simply missed it.
the sp-97 would go great with a Tornado fan....if u dont mind the 50something DB noise :lol:

I just got my mobile 2500 to run at 2.2Ghz (11*200) on 1.475v. Prime 95 stable, or so it seems. After 6 hours+ so far.
I gotta' say that would have let you go with something cheaper in the heatsink-department. "All" I'm using at the mo' is shuttle's standard heatpipe-cooling.

Not trying to beat you clockspeedwise tho', I'm trying to get it stable at a lower voltage instead.
Had worked my way down to 1.45 before, but I got a error, mind you, I had the ram a bit overclocked then, and that's prolly what prime didn't like.
Also I'd trust the voltage I get in my bios under pc-health before anything else.

But now I'm working on reducing the noise so temps are a bit higher at the mo'. With better 80mm fans for the heatpipe though, I've seen people bring temps way down and that was with voltages of 1.65 and above.
Oh and I had it stable at 1.45, cleared by prime even, but I kicked it up to 1.475 again 'cos I noticed a flux in the voltage, not enough to bother prime but still.
