I read a thread once that mentioned watching movies on PS2. Is that really possible? Do you have to go through the hassle of encoding, etc before you can use it or can you burn a data disk and play it? Any info on the "whats" and "how to's" would be great.

Yes it is possible to play DivX and XViD movies on ur PS2...i am doing it right now...but you need a mod-chip like messiah 2 which is the best! and secondly you need this software called PS2Reality..here's emule link if u want to download it

you have to burn this onto cd and boot it in ur Ps2...then put your divx or xvid movie in and play!!! Works awesome....at first even i couldn't believe that my PS2 could play Divx and Xvid movies...but hey it's working perfect now....
Where do you get the mod chip? Cost? Is it hard to install? Sorry for all the questions but... it seems like the best deal of all. Do you burn your XVID and DVIX movies onto a data disk?

If u live in the u.s it will cost between 40-50 installed on ur ps2!It's better if a technician installs it..it's kinda risky if u do it...as i said it costs 40-50 and installation is free too!
Divx movies and xvid movies can be played like the way u normally would in pc...yes a data disc. just put the cd in the ps2 and play! awesome! One thing though the cd has to be closed(finalised) in order to play in ps2...

So is this one different to PlayerFinalPS2Divx ?? because i read the info on that one and the Divx cds have to be created with a program called 'cdgenps2'.
Gonna download this one anyhow and give it a blast. :)

it's the same thing all right...but you don't have to put the avi in the same cd as cdgenps2....just burn the file i posted to a cd...then boot into ur ps2....after booting remove the cd and then load the avi cd...works great for me.......totally awesome...
You mentioned the chip is $40 to $50 and installation is free. Where do you get it installed.? Anyone know anyone in AZ.? ;)

I am able to watch my dvd-r movies created with mydvd on ps2 without modchip. works on most dvd players too. I am using a sony dru-500a dvd/cd writer.

I looked up the messiah, man, looks like a bitch to install, and soder that shit, im not mechanically inclined, cept building pcs, lol.
You buy it, and most places do install for free? you just gotta pay to ship ur ps2?

OK - wow am I a pain in the ass! I wasn't able to find the link for PS2 Reality Media Player on emule. Help. Can someone PLEASE send me a link and let me know what to do with it. I really want to be able to use my new PS2 when it gets here!
I'll bug the gaming board for info on how to copy games so that we can play them! I promise!

Just highlight it all, right click and choose Copy.
Then in E-mule/Donkey go to your download Traffic window right click and choose Paste (or 'Paste ED2K Link' ).....Easy.

OK. Got the PS2 with mod chip today. I was able to find, dl and burn (check Brocksters pin on Gameworld) the PS2 Reality Media Player. It works great! Finally I can watch those movies I've dl. Thank you so much for all of your help. My next question is....
Is there a way to pause, fast forward, or reverse movies when watching them this way? I figured out how to change the screen size but thats about it.
Lastly... a general PS2 question... can you play movies that have been burned/copied from an original. I burn on DVD-R. :D
Just jumpin back on this post to ask a question meself.
I've got the PS2 Divx player to boot, but it comes up with Loading Buffers and just stays on that. How long does it take to load a film before starting to play it ?? Does it work ok with large files or should i try it with something smaller than the 600MB file i tried?
I think it may have something to do with the age of me PS2, as its a V3 and their lasers are known to be temperamental.

regarding the fastforwarding and all, just press X and use the directional keys to forward/reverse...(X is for pausing)

yes you are right.....v3 lasers don't work that good....so u might wanna upgrade ur ps2 motherboard to v5 upwards......

I wonder if you can play ps2 games off a *normal disk* burned in Video CD Format.
VCD plays DVDs on a dvdplayer, so it may work right?

As to the burning PS2 games - there is some really good info on the Gameworld board. A pinned post from Brockster (???) tells how to burn a dl game.
I tried it. It works. There are also some programs on K-lite that are for copying PS2 games.

On this subject,can anyone tell me the reason for some movies that I burn onto dvd+r's playing in black and white on some PS2's and in colour on others?
Im pretty stumped and I know that sum1 on this forum will know.
