Your internet doesn't use 10mbps. That's just the maximum of the local network.
In order to have it show 100, you need a network device rated 100 at both your PC and your modem/router and you also need CAT5 Ethernet cable.
yea, i know my internet isnt at 100mbp/s, i only have 1 pc hooked up to the modem and it should be at 100mb. The cable is 10/100 ethernet cable. I don't know why it display 10mb....maybe i'll try reinstalling some drivers.
What model modem and network card?
i bet u dont have 10mbps internet as well....
comcast cable is 10mb i think..he could have that.
right click 'my comp'>properties>configure (the network device)>advanced>click "connection type">make sure the "value: " is set to "auto-negotiation" or you could try settings it to 100mbps and see if that works.
if not you have a problem with the network card, driver or modem.
ok...and your point would be? :huh:Quote:

Did you have a router/hub/switch installed before?Quote:

@vb, yes...but since my computer doesnt work anymore and waiting for the motherboard, i unplugged it today.
So the problem happened starting when you unplugged it from the router?
try unplugging the modem then plug it back in, and restart the computer.
see if those do anything.
You mgiht also try reinstalling the network card driver...
i've tried restarting modem several times.....turn of comp > unplug modem > wait 30 seconds > plug modem in > wait till lights stop flashing > turn on computer.
doesnt work...my dl speeding using NG (which maxes out your dl speed) is usually 350, now its 150.
tried reinstalling driver also. soooo many god damn problems.....thankfully this is all during tax return hehe....my mom is giving 1k to spend on my comp.
There's the reason. You disconnected your router. It is the device that connects at 100.
Now that you connect directly to the modem, you only get a 10mbps connection.
you sure about that?Quote:

Yes ross. Your modem is probably a 10/100 device. His may not be.
but if that is true, wouldnt it still be the same thing as the modem output 10mbp/s to the router?
No. When you connect to the router you see the 100mbps connection between you PC and the router (local). The connection between the router and the modem is still 10mbps.
