I am SICK of these pieces of crap DVD drives that work for a month or two, then just QUIT!
I'm on my 3rd one. I rarely use them, so I don't even know why I bother having one. I should have bought that SONY DVD burner instead of all of those pieces of CRAP.

Sorry to hear bout your bad experiences but it could be cooincidence.
Everyone I know has Liteon products (I just got thier 52x24x52 writer) and it seems of high quality and build.

I have used Liteon DVD readers and Liteon CD burners and have never had a single problem with any.

i've got a lite-on 52/24/52 cd-rw drive. only had it for a couple of weeks or so, and have had no problems apart from a slight squeak (which has since disappeared).
i'd recommend the lite-on cd-rw drives to anyone, but can't really comment on the dvd drives
edit: @EsssBee: yeah, i'd say they were as good as people make out
here's a pic of the results from mine

yep, if i were you i'd go for it.
look at it this way, for the price of a good night out, you could have a 52x drive.
that's how i justified it to myself. when you think about it, it's not really a lot of money
