If i use sp4, cuases my pc to crash and often use 100% CPU, thats why i always use SP3

oh weell, never had probs here, ran sp4 from integrated clean install, on amd k6-2 500mhz machien, with 256mb ram. no crashes or anything wrong.

No, slax has a script you can run and you can save your files to /dev/fd0 (floppy) or a partition on your hard disk. Then you can run the script again to get back your configuration

SLAX 3.0.25-2 doesn&#39;t handle some floppy drives properly, and it hangs for a long time (from 30 seconds to 10 minutes) waiting for the response from floppy. The only way how to speed up the booting is to insert empty floppy medium to the drive.

I&#39;ve tried mtools but nothing seems to work.
I have one computer available (compaq w2k server) which does this, so I can experiment with it. I think that it&#39;s a hardware problem.

I will try to fix it, but if I wouldn&#39;t be able to do so then I will be forced to remove floppy automounting (and autorestoring settings from it).

My stupid dell has only one bay so the floppy has to stay out. Does anybody else know how to make it faster.

Mount a separate linux ext2 or ext3 partition at boot and use that in place of your floppy drive. Better that way anyway, that way you can pick the size and probably add the mount options to the your /etc/fstab file and it will mount at automatically at boot.

Do a little more research on slax&#39;s site and youll see how to in detail.

Is it difficult to upgrade from windows 98 to windows 2000?

nope, you can upgrade doing a "upgrade" install, by simply placing the CD in while windows is booted up or do a clean format and reinstall (reccomended)

i wouldnt upgrade as it can fuck with installed progs, leaves lots of unnecessay files, proggies and reg keys and you would still be on fat32

just boot from the win 2k cd and follow the onscreen instructions, after teh partitions have been taken care of (defaults will probably do) it is the same anyway (clicking next a few hundred times)

also ensure you have all file backed up and know all that is required to install windows especially the cd key
