Which is better? My friend gave me his HL2 cd key, so steam works fine. What's different bout xfire? which is better?

xfire has a working buddy list, steam doesn't
i dont think you can use half-life without steam. yet you can join games through xfire, so you never need to see steam again
xfire rawks, the only poo thing is that the server lists dont tell you what mod is being used on battlefield.
also, xfire has fancy download thing that fetches patches and demos for you

right
so if i only have the key for hl2/css/hl2 deathmatch and no other game, is it worth it to try xfire?
unless i can play other multiplayer games w/o a key using xfire....
you might be able to find a cracked halo server but thats about it. it's worth getting for the buddy list cos theres no ads or memory leaks or anything to get in the way. it just minimizes to system tray while you arent using it
ok. that's a decent feature. but if hl2 is the only real key i have, and i have no other games that can play online, is it worth getting?
well yeah, if you leave it running all the time it records all the games you play so you get a sort of profile thingy. (click my sig and you'll know what i'm trying to say)

You need Steam to play HL2 and the other Valve games, its just that it doesnt work very well so half the features that it should have just don't work. Enter Xfire.
so far, steam's pulled through. update speeds are disturbingly fast. garry's mod works fine. hl2dm works fine. css works very nicely. hl2 updates don't help the load speed much, but still useful
if i don't have any other legit keys to play online, xfire doesn't sound very useful
buddies. plus you gotta do it for solidarity now
