Well, the tourist information site says that it's covered in icy snow between november and april...

To be honest mate, I wouldn't do it. Even in the middle of summer it's freezing cold at the top of most mountains, I can't even imagine what it would be like in winter.
If you do go, make sure you are well prepared; make sure you have decent shoes, warm breathable clothing, tin foil, maybe even something that can transmit an emergency gps signal if needed...

The weather changes quickly at those altitudes.

...or just get the train all the way up to the top :whistling

Snowdon isn't really a proper mountain anyway, more like a large hill. Having said that it did hail once when we were up there in like, May or something.

I'd be very surprised if there's snow on the top in November, tbh.

Gonna head off to bed early tonight and get some rest. Will have to buy a thermometer tomorrow maybe.

I don't think I've been sick since I had strep throat in like '99 and I'm pretty sure I've never had the flu.

What do sick people do when they have the flu since antibiotics don't help? Drink OJ and get rest or something else?

Fluids and rest, Skiz.

BTW, while OJ is an excellent source of Vitamin C - it might upset your stomach. Flat 7-UP, ginger-ale, or Sprite are better options.

Strange thing just happened. We were in the car and Ben had just eaten a biscuit so I wanted to wipe his face. I stuck my hand in the little pouch behind the driver's seat, because that's where I keep the wipes.
For some reason I can't find the wipes, so I stick my hand in a bit deeper and guess what I found?

A bloody PSP with Grand Theft Auto in it :o

We don't really take other people in the back of our car because of the car seat, so we think it must have belonged to the guy we bought the car off over a year ago!

You will be thinking now, well I've got a PSP, and I want to use its full potential by hacking it. That's fair enough, as there are a lot of things you can do with a hacked PSP over a not-hacked PSP:
- Play full PSP game backups, known as ISOs
- Run homebrew (user made applications)
- Play old PS1 games
- Run emulators for old systems such as the NES, SNES, GBA, N64 and more
- Change your PSP's theme

The first thing you need to ask yourself is what type of PSP to do you have?

Well, the first time it took us over 1.5 years to conceive, and that was with tracking my period etc on the calendar and taking the ovulation tests they sell.

The second time was just pure chance. I wasn't using any protection and it's not like we were having loads of sex (you tend to start seeing your bed as just a place for sweet sweet sleep when you have a child under 1) and I was breastfeeding (which is meant to reduce fertility).

However!

On both occasion I had been on a diet for a few months that was naturally high in folic acid. It had nothing to do with trying to conceive, it's just the usual stuff I do when I need to lose some weight; cut out all carbs except for a few dark Ryvita crackers, eat lots of grapefruit and melon, fresh vegetable soup every day and steamed chicken or fish with more green veg for dinner.

There is some research that indicates a link between diet and fertility but then again... In the end it just happens when it's meant to happen.

Okie dokie. So I went to The Pogues show on Wednesday at perhaps my favorite venue - Stubb's BBQ. I started out by going to a friend of mines place which happens to be a historic mansion right downtown (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=30.271433,-97.744185&spn=0,359.998794&t=h&z=20&layer=c&cbll=30.271352,-97.744213&panoid=OlxcX8NOGYTacjiYYkwhXw&cbp=12,280.99,,1,-4.95) (that's a story for another time). I crack my first Guinness.

After three innings and as many Guinness we head to the show. I couldn't believe how many people were there. I had gone to the Black Crowes show about two weeks before and there weren't that many people. When the Pogues came out, Shane immediately made a comment like "So yer burning, ye?" (welcome to Austin) and then jumped right into a song, albeit completely unintelligible. But that's his style, right? I didn't give two fucks if I could understand him or not.

Anyways, the crowd was packed full of fans who did know the words and they sang right along. I honestly cannot ever remember hearing a crowd sing song after song in such a rowdy, seemingly traditional way with the music. Add that this is not music that you hear in Texas and it was very surreal and fun.

For most of the show, Shane would perform two songs and then go back stage for one song. It was 2 on:1 off for about the first hour. Then things really started to get rolling. Everyone was good and lit by then and the front third of the crowd was going pretty nuts. When they finished, it was clear that no one was going anywhere until they got an encore. I kid you not. Not one person in the entire venue even thought about leaving. The front third was banging things, stomping their feet, screaming, etc. and making the loudest commotion I've ever heard at Stubbs. After a few minutes the band came back out and played a couple more songs. They left the stage again and again no one left. Double-encore! I found the set-list online:

Streams of Whiskey
If I Should Fall From Grace With God
The Broad Majestic Shannon
Young Ned Of The Hill
Boys From The County Hell
A Pair of Brown Eyes
Tuesday Morning
Kitty
Sunnyside of the Street
Repeal of the Licensing Laws
Body of an American
Old Main Drag
Thousands
Dirty O...ld Town
Irish Rover
Bottle of Smoke
Sickbed

Star of the County Down
Rainy Night in Soho
Sally Maclennane

Paddy on the Railway
Fiesta

It's tough to really appreciate any show when you've never heard a single song, but I had a blast. :01:

My sister just called to tell me she has just booked a ski holiday for March next year. Apparently she felt she had to do this after reading on facebook how miserable I was feeling (morning sickness, still).

She went on to ask if I wanted to come along. I explained to her that it really would not be a good idea to go skiing when 7.5 months pregnant.

Then she had a laugh about how I would be big enough by then to roll down the hills ( needless, to say, she has no kids, hence has never been pregnant). At which point my mum, my sister-in-law and my other sister, shouted 'shut up' in unison. (my mum has 7 kids, sis in law 6 and my sister has 2)

I just want to say:

The 8 year old was bugging me a few weeks ago to post a picture she'd drawn to the offices of some kids internets in America.

She stuck a 1st class stamp on it and expected it to suffice. I explained to her that the letter would have to go by Air-Mail and it would cost extra. 'Leave it with me', says I, 'I'll get it sorted'. Then I promptly forgot about it.

Eventually she posted it herself, having arrived at the fact that I am a useless cunt. She posted it with just the 1st class stamp. Somehow, it arrived in Georgia and her picture is now displayed on their site. Her hair was perpendicular with delight.

I can only guess that the good people at the post office saw her sorry little scrawl, knew it was a kid sending the letter, and paid the rest of the postage for her.

Kinda almost nearly half-way gives you hope for humanity, innit.

I've been re-reading scans of the old epic Judge Dredd stories all week. Some of Brian Bolland's work in The Judge Child and Judge Death, The Cursed Earth and other shorts is fucking fantastic. He was always my favourite artist as a kid.

He only does covers for comics now. Fucking genius.

I have been sick for 7 weeks, my hormones are all over the shop and I sometimes feel like I'm losing my mind, my sense of smell is so sensitive that even the smell of my blueberry shampoo makes me puke, I have a constant pain in my hip which I know will develop into an inability to walk without the help of crutches for, oh, at least the last 2 months of my pregnancy. Not to mention the things that are still to come; more stretchmarks, itchy skin, indigestion, unable to sleep comfortably, needing to pee every hour of the night and having to waddle down the stairs, the list goes on.

Skiz, I meant to say that that was a lovely little review you gave us of the Pogues concert. It sounded brilliant.

I love Philly cheese steaks... especially the ones from Nathan's.

I have tried recreating them, to no avail. I suspect it needs a special degree of greasiness that is only obtainable in American fast food places.

In other news, just got back from up North.

Gem's great aunt is a sprightly 80-year old who is the village granny. She seriously still makes a living out of entertaining any celebrities that happen to pass through the area.
Because of this she got us a fantastic rate in a hotel that had a lovely spa attached to it. Woke up this morning to the most magnificent view.
The guy who played Billy Elliott was in the room next to us.

Kewl.

Well played, sir. I missed that one unfortunately. Highlights looked good though.

I watched Texas vs. Baylor this morning, then flip-flopped for the next 4 hours between FL vs SC and USC vs Stan (great game) and then watched TX A&M vs OU.

Full steam to Pasadena for my Longhorns at this point. :01:

Our gameday menu was similar but we put it on tortillas with queso frescas.

Basically steak and cheese with extra steak.

Have the Americans ever considered serving things without cheese. Or that one helping of steak is enough and it doesn't really need added steak.

She did exceptionally well to only get a bit of it on her hand, and then the rest of it went in the bath. *

She's very well trained now.

* She doesn't have a bath in her bedroom like, I was in the middle of hastily frogmarching her to the toilet but we didn't quite make it

It's a Philly steak and cheese sandwich, serving it without cheese - would be mental.

Think it through.

It's because I had a tooth out, and then a wisdom tooth cut through and pushes all my teeth to one side. Now one of my teeth catches a bit of my lip when eating. It's dead annoying.
