LOS ANGELES — Opening statements in the first-of-its kind Xbox 360 criminal hacking trial were delayed here Wednesday after a federal judge unleashed a 30-minute tirade at prosecutors in open court, saying he had “serious concerns about the government’s case.”
“I really don’t understand what we’re doing here,” US District Judge Philip Gutierrez roared from the bench.

As a special Thanksgiving treat, members of the Windows Phone 7 homebrew community, Rafael Rivera, Chris Walsh and Long Zheng, released a tool for unlocking Windows Phone 7 devices to allow for the installation of unapproved applications. Similar to jailbreaking the iPhone, the new tool disables the controls which prevent "sideloading" apps, meaning loading apps outside of the official Windows Phone 7 Marketplace.
Although the software's developers claim the app is "completely safe and reversible," Microsoft has now released a statement saying just the opposite. Our advice? Proceed with caution, new jailbreakers.

If that deal on a Sony PlayStation looks too good to be true, police say it may be hot.
Police in Peel Region, west of Toronto, say there's been a theft of about $1 million worth of Sony PlayStations and other gaming equipment from two transport trailers.
A Peel police spokesman said Thursday that investigators are scouring all the usual places — online and off — where stolen electronics are sold.

Since its release on November 4th, “hacking” Microsoft’s Kinectperipheral for the Xbox 360 game consoles has become a popular Internet sport. Now, just a couple of weeks after saying that it would “work closely with law enforcement” to keep the Kinect tamper-proof, Microsoft has apparently reversed its stance, claiming that the Kinect was left open to tinkerers on purpose.
Following a $3,000 bounty put up by the open source community for anyone able to create an open source driver for Kinect, Microsoft told CNET on November 4th that it “does not condone the modification of its products.”

I have to admit that when it comes down to military grade hardware I never cease to be impressed, Galleon's Ultra Small Rugged NAS being one of those devices that really leave me wondering what will they come up with next, as this seems to be the ultimate NAS server solution available out there.

But what is so surprising about this thing you ask?

Well, for starters we get all the usual military certifications that basically say this can withstand almost anything you can throw, as it can work in temperature ranging from -40°C to +85°C as well as in high vibration environments as those found on the battle field.

The update wars continue, and call us crazy but it sure looks like Sony is on its heels. The PlayStation 3firmware version 3.50 was supposed to be the one to really protect the console, forcibly installed withMedal of Honor and reportedly the cause of the latest (and last) Gran Turismo 5 delay. But, it was all for naught, with PS Jailbreak announcing downgrade support for firmware 3.42 and 3.50 "and beyond." The only question now is: what's the next firmware version going to be called? Maybe if Sony started naming these updates after delicious pastries we'd be a little less tired of applying them.

The launch marks a new beginning for Microsoft on the smartphone market in the US, as the new Windows Phone 7 platform is radically different than the older Windows Mobile OS.

Even though wireless video streaming solutions seem to pop just about everywhere nowadays these are still to expensive for the average consumer while image lag and transmission range can still prove to be a problem so Thanko developed an adapter that sends HDMI video or audio pver to your HDTV via Ethernet.

Ethernet connectivity aside, this works pretty much like your standard wireless video transmission kit, coming with two units (a receiver and a transmitter), one of these being attached to your laptop, PC or any other type of HDMI enabled device while the receiver gets connected to your HDTV.

More pictures of the rumored PlayStation Phone have shown up, and the device looks as sleek as ever. Details about the device’s software and Sony’s plans have also been revealed through an earnings call and sources close to the project.

But first let’s deal with the question of the device’s authenticity. When we reported on the PlayStation Phone last week, it was the culmination of a long series or rumors about an Android-powered, Sony-designed gaming device. The source for this big development was gadget blog Engadget, which simply posted pictures and details under the headline “The PlayStation Phone.”

Spice Mobility, a handset-maker local to India, is offering a 3-D handset that requires no special glasses. The M-67 3D costs Rs 4,299 ($97 US) and uses an auto-stereoscopic display for 3-D viewing but can be switched bewteen 2-D and 3-D viewing modes with a dedicated shortcut key. The candybar phone won’t take the place of a 3-home theater, however, as the 6 centimeter (2.36 inch) screen runs at low 240 x 320, or QVGA, resolution.
Even with a screen shows such a small number of pixels, I’m intrigued by how the 3-D mode looks on the M-67 3D, and more importantly, wondering if the technology be used by other manufacturers of mobile phones.

Better too much storage space than not enough?
You might have a couple of terabyte drives at home to store all of the media you've accumulated over the years, but you probably don't know many people who have a home computer packing 70 terabytes of storage.
English Russia has a post up about a Russian PC enthusiast who decided to upgrade his storage so he would have room for all of his movies. He now has room for 70,000 movies (more if they're lower than DVD quality), or about 24 million songs. Of course, with that many hard drives in one place, you're going to need some serious cooling. Gizmodo reports that to cool the 60 hard drives (adding up to a massive 70TB of storage) housed inside a homemade wooden cabinet, this guy installed a total of 40 fans.
