Last month, a relatively new music downloading application burst onto the scene. Mulve carried no music of its own, but instead allowed users to make their own searches and download material from servers owned by Russia’s biggest social networking site. This week Mulve disappeared unexpectedly but for good reason. Without any warning, the UK police arrested its operator. ...

Broussard lost up to $30 million of his own finances in developing Duke Nukem Forever.
Thursday CVG said that Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford wouldn't let the London press film portions of a new Duke Nukem Forever trailer because "it dances on the line of decency." 2K Games made a similar move during Duke's big reveal at PAX 2010, kicking video cameras out of the mini-theater once it began showing another trailer.

While companies from Google to Apple to Microsoft voice their ardent support for HTML5 and developers rush to show off the fun tricks it can do, those who actually oversee HTML5 are telling the world to cool their britches.
An today, “There is already a lot of excitement for HTML5, but it’s a little too early to deploy it because we’re running into interoperability issues.” Particularly when it comes to video content, different devices and different browsers aren’t handling HTML5 consistently.
“I don’t think it’s ready for production yet,” the official continued. “The real problem is can we make it work across browsers, and at the moment, that is not the case.”

Whether it’s Hulu, or 85 million-plus daily tweets or millions of photos being uploaded to Facebook, Internet traffic keeps growing and growing. That’s not going to change any time soon, mostly because the Internet is now becoming a crucial part of our daily lives. In some parts of the world, it’s hard to escape the ‘net, so to speak. A pilot internet voting program in Washington D.C. for this November's elections has been scrapped. Why? Well, officials invited hackers to give the system their "best shot," and some college kids did—and pulled off a pretty good prank.
During a trial period of the web voting system last week, the Board of Elections and Ethics asked "computer experts" to "prod its vulnerabilities" in preparation for the upcoming elections—in which the system was going to be put to use by some 900 overseas voters in lieu of absentee ballots. But the trial period was quickly put on hold, with the board citing "usability issues."

Still curious if there's a market for mice with a dozen or more buttons on the side? Wonder no more. Just over a year after Razer caused every MMO addict in existence to salivate uncontrollably with the Naga comes this: a new duo of special edition Naga creations. For all intents and purposes, the Naga Maelstrom and Naga Molten are identical to the original in terms of functionality, but there's a decent chance you'll want to lift your palm from the surface of these a lot more frequently. Both units are graced with special edition lids, and somehow still feature 17 "MMO-optimized" buttons while adding a touch of glow underneath. Both models are slated to ship worldwide next month, with pricing set for $79.99 / €79.99 (the same as the original, if you just have to know). Per usual, the full presser is after the break.

Apple is building a massive data center in North Carolina for its iTunes Cloud. But, recently they faced a problem. To really get onto the cloud, Apple needed more land.
In particular a one-acre parcel owned by Donnie and Kathy Full in the rural town of Maiden.
According to Bloomberg, Apple made an offer to the Fullbrights for the land they purchased once upon a time for $6,000. But Donnie and Kathie said no thanks. Apple made a second offer. They again politely declined.

With Windows 7 closing in on its first year on the market, and Internet Explorer 8 nearing its two years anniversary, the focus is slowly shifting toward the future, namely on Internet Explorer 9, Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Windows 8.

The next releases of Windows and Internet Explorer are being scrutinized by antitrust authorities in the United States for compliance with the Final Judgments of an anti-monopoly lawsuit wrapped up in 2003.

In an interesting post at Memeburn, Tom Foremski points to BitTorrent’s efforts to get rid of the bad rep it has been cast upon it because of the p2p technology it has developed which for many has become equal to illegal file sharing and Internet pirates. In fact, as we have previously underlined in numerous posts, BitTorrent has irreversibly revolutionized the way digital content is distributed and more and more companies are embracing peer-to-peer technology in their business because advantages have become simply irrefutable.

September proved much of the same in the browser market as the top three browsers continued their trend, either upwards or downwards. The launch of the Internet Explorer 9 Beta didn't do much for the overall share of IE which slid below 60 percent.

Meanwhile, Google Chrome snatched another half a percent and Firefox saw pretty much no movement.
