As we all know, early adopters hate pulling out their phones. They would, quite honestly, prefer to leave their phones safely ensconced in little leather holsters on their belts, glancing at them only once or twice during the day and spending the rest of the time riding tandem bicycles with loved ones and eating delicate smoked cheeses. This is, it seems, the message Microsoft is trying to impart with these new Windows Phone 7 ads which tout the phone’s simple interface by suggesting that you’ll get more done with less. True? Possibly. A valuable marketing message? Probably not.

Torrific isn't the first HTTP torrent downloader but it'll download any torrent file your throw at it, help you search for what you want via Google, and do it all for free.
Torrific is pretty easy to use. If you've already got a URL to a torrent file, just paste it in to Torrific and click "Get." Alternatively, you can enter a Torrent site you want to browse for a particular torrent, or just enter a search term and Torrific will turn to Google to help you find what you want.

Microsoft's new Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) browser will require Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1), a not-yet-released major update to the operating system, the company said today. According to a FAQ posted on the company's site, Windows 7 users will need to install SP1 prior to adding IE9. People running Windows Vista must have that operating system's SP2 in place.
The Ars Technica technology site first reported on the Windows 7 SP1 requirement Thursday.

A lot of you must have probably heard about Mulve, a new piece of software that's already gaining popularity (and some controversy) due to its ability to download single music tracks at very high speeds from VKontakte.ru's server pool, without requiring users to upload anything else than an HTTP request.

Earlier this week, anti-piracy lawyers ACS:Law had their website taken down by a 4chan DDoS attack. Adding insult to injury, owner Andrew Crossley was harassed at home in the middle of the night by prank phone calls. Now, through a fault with his website, hundreds of megabytes of private emails have been exposed to the public and uploaded to The Pirate Bay. To those hoping that this is a MediaDefender-type fiasco all over again, trust us – it is.

Early trial for DICE multiplayer shooter runs October 4-7, will let players test two maps and multiplayer modes, check out playable Taliban controversy for themselves.

Ordinarily, when a Medal of Honor is awarded, it's not going to be taken away. Next month will see an exception of sorts, as Electronic Arts will be giving PC gamers an open beta for its first-person shooter Medal of Honor but will be pulling the plug on the testing period after four days.

The PlayStation 3 video game console has received this week a new firmware upgrade, 3.50, which enables 3D Blu-ray playback as well as an array of other things, but also blocks the use of third-party PlayStation 3 controllers, according to a recent report.

As you can imagine, quite a few PS3 users have started complaining, as their controllers didn't register with the console and they weren't able to use it, unless they had an official DualShock 3 controller.

A spokesperson for Sony Ericsson says that the company has no plans to build new Symbian-based smartphones. Much like Motorola, which restored its competitiveness by dropping Symbian and its own in-house Linux effort in favor of Android in 2008, Sony Ericsson appears to be committed to Google's mobile operating system.

Today, Bloomberg reports that the Facebook phone is going to be sold in Europe via Carphone Warehouse and other European carriers. It will be made by INQ, which is a relatively new handset maker that got its start making a Skype phone. In the U.S., INQ is said to be working with AT&T, where the phone is going to be sold under Ma Bell’s brand. Reports say the phone will be sold in two models: a touch screen model and a QWERTY model. We reported on INQ building touch-screen phones earlier in the year.

It’s hard to find a good man, but not impossible if you’re willing to make a little effort. Working in high tech, I’m mostly around guys all day. And I can tell you that – in general – technical guys are pretty cool.
If nothing else, they will always be able to fix the TV, your PC, and the sprinkler system in a pinch. Yes, they have way too many gadgets, but come on, how many shoes do you have? How about just the black ones?

Though all keyboards are meant for the same thing, there are quite a few different designs and technologies that give them varying degrees of uniqueness, and SteelSeries took a fairly radical step when it put together the Shift.

There are several features that make this product stand out more than others, the extra wide feet and wrist rest with rubber to prevent slipping arguably being the least of them.

Much as been made of the so-called Facebook Phone. While Facebook is still being vague about their ideas for this (but at least they’re no longer denying it), it seems likely that anything they do will be based on Google’s Android platform. And INQ may offer the firstof these starting next year. But Facebook isn’t the only web company thinking about phones and Android. Mozilla is as well. Or at least, their community is. Today on the Mozilla Labs blog, they’ve unveiled Seabird, an Android-based concept phone built around the ideals of the Open Web.

This one's been expected and rumored for a long time. Now it's official: Blockbuster has initiated "pre-arranged" chapter 11 proceedings. Under the plan, Blockbuster's debt would be reduced from $1 billion to about $100 million when implemented. The press release states that Blockbuster is currently evaluating its US store portfolio as part of the recapitalization process. For the time being, all 3,000 stores will remain open. However, we've been told by a trusted tipster that up to 1,000 could be shed before things are said and done. Now make no mistake, Blockbuster is still open and wants you to know that it's business as usual during the restructuring -- the details of which you can read in the press release after the break.
