Does the loss of LimeWire have you down? Well it really shouldn't. The close of LimeWire had zero tangible detriment to the file-sharing community. If anything, it actually spurred innovation on several fronts: renewed focus on FrostWire and the arrival of LimeWire: Pirate Edition. The latter is a new entry into the file-sharing fray, whose arrival was spurred by the inoperability of the most recent versions of the official LimeWire client. Although LimeWire withstood the test of time, it didn't quite pass the final exam. That distinct honor goes to SoulSeek - one of the oldest P2P applications still thriving after all these years.

LimeWire, the company, wants to make extra-super-duper clear that it had nothing to do with the newly released LimeWire: Pirate Edition.
Not content with a mere statement to the press, LimeWire has instead updated the overlay message that appears when you load the company's website. The message, in all capital letters, looks Very Serious. While before it focused on the injunction that has all but shut down LimeWire, the new message goes heavy on the "we had nothing to do with this Pirate Edition" angle.

Georgia’s Valdosta State University has updated its network with software that can pinpoint students who use P2P software. The university is committed to stop file-sharing on its network even if that results in prison sentences for students. Offenders will be disciplined by the school and then handed over to the police, the university has announced.

uTorrent has long been known for providing a torrent managing client that's light on fancy features but light on your system resources, too. Today's release of uTorrent 2.2 brings out of beta an add-on gallery that the publisher BitTorrent, Inc. has been working on since the spring. The "App Studio," as the company calls it, allows users to customize features on the fly, including adding security from BitDefender, games, social networking, and enhanced content discovery for legally free entertainment.

Move over, US Copyright Group—the pornographers are going to show you how they do it (in several senses). Over the last two weeks, one lawyer with an AOL e-mail address, working out of a Martinsburg, West Virginia office, has managed to file more than 16,700 new lawsuits against file-swappers with a taste for Batman and booty. The cases follow the familiar pattern and wouldn't be notable except for the fact that they make lawyer Kenneth J. Ford the current copyright litigation champion of the entire US in 2010.
Ford's law practice has done well since he went into the porn protection biz earlier this year, setting up shop under the name Adult Copyright Company. He filed several lawsuits during the summer for films like Juicy White Anal Booty 4, but it's only this autumn that his business has really come into its own.

UK Record label drops effort to sue tens of thousands of people suspected of illegally sharing copyrighted copies of its albums.
The Ministry of Sound says it has halted plans to sue more than 25,000 people it accuses of illegal file-sharing.
Ministry of Sound CEO Lohan Presencer blames the decision on the fact that “less than 20% of the names remain and BT (the UK ISP that the 25,000 accused are customers of) costs have soared from a few thousand pounds to several hundred thousand pounds.”
“It makes no economic sense to continue with this application,” he added.

We already discussed about how the porn industry has always known to technologically adapt itself with every new progress made in this respect and become a pioneer when it comes to fresh distributing models. We also reported in previous posts about this industry’s latest discovered frenzy – suing file-sharing users.
This aspect concerns this post. Porn producer Axel Braun has filed a federal copyright suit against no less than 7,098 alleged file sharers, CNET reports.'

A new Internet traffic trends report released by the Canadian broadband management company Sandvine reveals that global P2P traffic is expanding, with BitTorrent as the key player. In North America, more than half of all upstream traffic (53.3%) on an average day can be attributed to P2P. The report further signals some really interesting regional differences in P2P use, such as the dominance of Ares in Latin America.
